Pastor’s News and Notes

The Ascension of our Lord

The great forty days are now complete. After the resurrection we are told in the Book of Acts that the Risen Savior remained on earth mingling with disciples and many others for forty days. We have experienced some of those encounters during these Easter Days. Now our eyes are focused with the disciples to the Ascending Lord, ascending into heaven where he sits on the right hand of the father,  a position of power and authority where he shall remain until the final day when he comes again. We look with  amazement as the disciples did (Acts 1:1-11), if with some concern about who would now do the ministry. And we are assured with the angels from heaven, that this same Jesus whom we have seen go up into heaven will return again to receive unto himself all believers in Christ everywhere in eternal glory. We have the privilege of living in that time when we have seen, and wait to see what is to come. Meanwhile we look to next week’s joyous and somewhat mysterious celebration of the outpour of the Spirit on the Day of Pentecost. (You are encouraged to wear red, the festive color of celebration on that day).

Military Appreciation Sunday - May 31 will be Military Appreciation Sunday at Christ Lutheran.  On this day, we would like to recognize those currently serving in the military (both active duty and reserves) as well as those who have served in the past.
If you, a friend or a family member currently serve or have served in the military, we need your help:

  • Fill out the information form on the table in the narthex with the service members’ name, branch of military, and dates of service and place it in the patriotic box.
  • Place a picture of the service member in the patriotic box or email it to the church office.  Pictures do not necessarily need to be in uniform and will be returned.  These will be used for a special display on Military Appreciation Sunday.

We would also like to encourage all military service members to wear your uniform to church on May 31.
